Aftercare is an important part of the programme of recovery from addiction at Ocean Hills Rehab.
A month in rehab is just the start of living a life in recovery – it provides time and distance from life, addiction and responsibilities, and is also a chance to gather tools and support from our team of professional clinicians.
But the work of recovery really begins when you start living again as a sober person.
Because life happens on life's terms, you will need to use every tool at your disposal and every ounce of support you can get to get through the challenges of life.
Why ongoing support from the Aftercare programme at Ocean Hills is crucial
The Aftercare programme is an important part of the support our guests needs when they finish rehab.
Every week, the Ocean Hills community of guests who have completed the live-in programme meet online to support each other. Facilitated by an experienced addiction professional from Ocean Hills, there is usually a formal topic and a chance for everyone to raise issues, ask questions, offer advice or just listen.
There's plenty of laughter, sometimes a few tears and always, a feeling of respect, safety and privacy.
Former guests also remain part of the Ocean Hills community for weekly phone support with our therapy team for a period of time.
"It's the highlight of the week for many of us," says Elaine Atkinson, founder of Ocean Hills.
"We're there for each other to provide crucial support in all things sober – there's nothing like talking with people who truly understand sobriety and its challenges."

Topics covered in Aftercare
